Empowering Girls Through Football

23rd October 2024

Baywater Healthcare has sponsored our Senior Clinical Advisor, Claire’s daughter’s grassroots football team. We are delighted to be the kit sponsors for the 24/25 season for the SAHA U14 Lynx girls’ team. The team is managed by Claire’s husband, who has coached grassroots football for about 12 years. Each year, the club look for sponsorship to allow the team to get kits that fit and look smart for the upcoming season. It isn’t easy for teams to find sponsors, so we are thrilled to be able to assist.

The Football for Girls platform within Saha FC helps empower girls and young women, giving them essential life skills they can use in adulthood. They believe there is much more to the club than just teaching the girls how to kick a ball.

The team is helping to:

– Break down gender barriers and stereotypes by encouraging girls to pursue their passions and show them they can do anything

– Improve self-esteem and confidence.

– Teach teamwork and individual responsibility.

– Teach respect for those in higher roles, their teammates, and the opposition. It also shows them the importance of respecting themselves and their own body.

– Foster new friendships and form bonds extending well beyond the team’s life.

The Lynx club is a great ambassador for Football for Girls, and they have seen some fantastic progress in all of the five points above. The team started in the summer of 2022 with 14 girls from different schools and backgrounds with differing abilities. In just a single season, they became the best of friends, undertaking activities and meeting together away from the training field. They have learnt to take responsibility for their mistakes and to play as a team. The respect they show for each other, the opposition, the referee and the coaching staff is outstanding.

The team manager states he has seen the most timid of girls become a fantastic defender who is not scared of the most physical player on the pitch and has heard the girls discussing
personal issues, such as being bullied, with each other and each giving their advice and encouragement on how to deal with it.

Good luck this season girls!

This is just one of the grass roots clubs we support. Our focus is to support under represented groups, girls football is a great example of this.
