Maintaining a Healthy Diet

10th March 2025

This week is Nutrition and Hydration Week. This week emphasises the importance of trying to maintain a healthy diet. A healthy, balanced diet is vital to maintaining good health. It provides benefits such as reducing stress levels, improving mental health, and getting a better night’s sleep. A balanced diet also reduces the chance of obesity, heart disease, and type-2 diabetes.

A healthy diet includes foods that provide sources of protein and calcium, fruit and vegetables, and regular hydration. Men should have around 2500 calories daily, and women should have around 2000 calories daily. Following these guidelines is a great way to plan meals daily and maintain a healthy amount of food intake. You may have been advised to take in more or fewer calories if you have a health condition. If you are a Baywater Healthcare patient and this is the case, you should follow the guidance your Healthcare Professional has provided you.

A great way to eat healthier is to try replacing snack foods that are full of sugar, such as chocolate and sweets, with alternatives, such as fruit. It is recommended that we have at least seven portions of fruit and vegetables each day. Fruit and vegetables are a source of fibre and vitamins and are tasty and filling!
